The Heifer Dinner

My how long it has been since I posted.  It was a lovely weekend here with 60 plus degree weather, which meant we were busy busy outside.

The highlight of our weekend was the Heifer Dinner we attended with my parents for their church this Sunday. Everyone brought a dish, for me the More From Magnolia’s, Apricot Cream Cheese Streusal bars.  I have never had a recipe go bad from this book.  Can I say that the food was more than unbelievable, as seen here:

The tables were dressed simply, but inspiring, with cute little animals for the girls to entertain themselves with.

Obviously, as you can tell, they didn’t lack for a good time.  What with the jokes (“An announcement, that the person driving the yellow Hummer please go out to the parking lot, God wants to have a word with you”) received a rousing applause and fit right in with my Facebook status the other day that anyone still driving a Hummer to the grocery these days should hide their head in shame.  That and the Stand Up Theologian kept everyone on their toes (who says Episcopalians don’t know how to have a good time)?

We found that this lovely group in this small parish house, raised $2,002 during the dinner.  Which means that somewhere a poverty stricken family will receive and reap the benefits of a Joy To The World and a Knitting basket.  Just a little token that breaks down like this:

heifer_a  One heifer.

Four goats.

llama_lgllama_lg1llama_lg2llama_lg3

 Four llamas.

   sheep_asheep_a1sheep_a2sheep_a3

Four sheep.

So, if you are in doubt that small groups of people cannot do great things, or that the $30.00 the girls collected in their spare change jars for the last quarter of last year cannot do any good, think again.

If you haven’t already checked out Heifer International, I urge you to do so here.

And how better to end the night with a good walk along the church wall down to the river????

  1. *LOL* Love the Hummer comment. I’ve stated before – I have a lower opinion of people who drive hummers right off the bat. And I find it both irritating and laughable that there is a bright yellow one parked outside the Aldi’s a lot. I’m guessing employee?? I want to stop and leave a note on it. *L*

Anyway congrats on the fundraising. That’s a great achievement!

  2. looks like you had a great time 🙂 a few years back i bought everyone in my family a baby chicken for christmas through Heifer.
